"(Playing at The Garden) was great. We definitely gave a lot of effort. I think we started off a little bit slow. This team (Portland) was in the semifinals last year in the Western Conference so they are a team to be reckoned with. We gave them a run for their money and we didn’t play particularly well. We are going to be okay" -- Amar'e StoudemireNEW YORK -- The elaborate pregame festivities were designed to emphasize that these are the "new" New York Knicks.
Crunch time was the same ol' story.
The unbeaten Portland Trail Blazers spoiled the Knicks' home opener, erasing a nine-point deficit in the final 5 1/2 minutes for a 100-95 victory Saturday night.
"We felt the pressure was still on them, this is their home opener," guardBrandon Roy said. "We just wanted to keep consistent with our pressure and with our effort, and down the stretch we felt we forced them into some tough shots and we were able to get a win."
Roy scored 29 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Miller had 19 points and 10 assists as the Trail Blazers improved to 3-0.
Aldridge hit the tiebreaking free throw with 25.5 seconds left, and both he and Miller made two apiece in the final half-minute as the Blazers weren't fazed by a close game after two double-digit victories to open the season.
"You don't want to have to continue to do that, but these guys are not dropping their heads," Portland coach Nate McMillan said. "They're playing a 48-minute game."
Wilson Chandler finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds for the Knicks, who made only one field goal after taking a 92-83 lead with 5:31 remaining. Amare Stoudemire scored 18 points but turned it over six times in his home debut.
Raymond Felton, also making his Madison Square Garden debut with the Knicks, scored 16 points.
It was encouraging home start for the Knicks -- until crunch time, when none of their new additions could find the basket.
"We just didn't score. We were up nine. They made some nice shots. Things didn't go well for us," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said.
New York's lead was gone after Portland rallied to grab a 95-94 advantage on Miller's 3-pointer with 2:08 to play. Felton's foul shot tied it with 1:23 remaining, and it stayed that way until Aldridge was fouled on an offensive rebound and made one free throw for a 96-95 lead with 25.5 seconds left.
Marcus Camby blocked Felton's drive, Aldridge made another free throw, and the Knicks lost a chance to tie when a ball that was originally called out of bounds on Portland with 6.5 seconds left was overturned when instant replay showed it was off Stoudemire. Miller then made two free throws to put it away.
"We're still getting used to each other, still trying to get that chemistry, but things didn't go our way," Felton said. "I think we made some good plays, some good calls. It's a tough loss, especially when you get a six-, seven-point lead going with 2 1/2 minutes left in the game. It's tough to lose a game like that."
It was an all-too familiar finish for a team trying to move away from its awful recent past.
The Knicks have 10 new players on the roster as they try to return to the postseason for the first time since 2004. New York shares the league's longest current playoff drought with Minnesota and is mired in a franchise-worst stretch of nine straight losing seasons.
Boxing ring announcer Michael Buffer introduced the Knicks before the game, saying it was time to "turn the page to a new chapter of the New York Knicks."
The first quarter was nothing new at all.
The Knicks surrendered 58 percent shooting, hit only 36 percent themselves, and trailed by as many as 10 points. The lead was still 10 midway though the second before reserve Chandler led a 16-3 run that gave New York a 42-39 lead on Felton's 3-pointer with 1:54 remaining.
Chandler had 15 points and 12 rebounds in 17 minutes in the first half, which ended in a 44-all tie.
Game notes
The Knicks fell to 33-32 in home openers. ... Portland is 2-0 on a four-game trip that concludes with games Monday at Chicago and Tuesday at Milwaukee. ... A Blazers spokesman confirmed the team won't offer former No. 1 pick Greg Oden an extension on his rookie contract. The oft-injured center is still recovering from a fractured left patella last December that ended his season early.

Tough Loss in Boston, Back Home for Portland
"I thought our guys played with as much heart as you can play with. They hit some big shots that gave us a chance to have a little flurry at the end, but I thought overall it was good. Some guys are stepping up, and if we play that hard and play that well, we'll win some games." -- Mike D'Antoni

Knicks vs Celtics October 29th 2010

Knicks will go with the same line up as Wednesday
Celtics Locker Room Fight *Full Story*...
Less than one week after tempers flared during a two-on-two game in practice, Delonte West and Von Wafer had another altercation earlier this afternoon.
During a three-on-three game with Avery Bradley, Luke Harangody, Semih Erden and assistant coach Tyronn Lue, West began fouling Wafer each time the reserve guard touched the ball. West was increasingly physical to the point that Wafer exited to the locker room midway through the game. As he walked away, West barked obscenities and taunted Wafer.
After Wafer had showered and sat down at his locker, West approached from behind and threw a punch. Wafer didn't see the punch coming but quickly got off of the ground and connected on two punches of his own. He then wrestled West to the ground before being separated by the team's veterans.
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were very unhappy with the incident, especially since it occurred just hours before a game. Doc Rivers met with the players and tried smooth things over shortly after.
Sources close to the situation say that the Danny Ainge and the Celtics have grown tired of West's confrontations with teammates and are considering releasing the point guard. West is on a non-guaranteed contract and his distractions could result in that deal being terminated.
West has gotten into skirmishes with multiple teammates this season and his confrontational ways have grown old very quickly in the locker room. He is currently serving a ten-game suspension after pleading guilty to weapons charges in July.

Celtics Have Locker Room Fist Fight After Practice
Report: Delonte West, Von Wafer in Fist-Fight
Delonte West’s time in Boston may be short. West is already serving a 10-game suspension because of weapons charges, and on Friday his situation got worse. Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD reports that West and teammate Von Wafer got into a fight today after practice: “After another intense three-on-three game in practice today, Delonte West and Von Wafer got into a fist fight in the locker room. Punches were thrown and the players had to be separated. The Celtics are considering releasing West, who is on a non-guaranteed contract. Sources say that Wafer tried to walk away but West followed him into the locker room and threw the first punch. Doc and vets aren’t happy.”

Fat Joe Interviews Amar'e Stoudemire (XXL Mag)
XXL got diehard New York Knicks fan Fat Joe to play journalist for the day as he interviews five-time NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire. The two hip-hop fans have a hearty conversation about the love of basketball and hip-hop. We’ll call this roll play.
FAT JOE: Yo, Amar’e, what’s the chances of [the New York Knicks] getting Carmelo Anthony [from the Denver Nuggets]? ’Cause you know I been on him heavy. I been harassing him, harassing his wife [La La Vazquez]. You think we [Knicks fans] might get him next year?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: [Laughs] I hope so. It’s possible, man. I think ’Melo is looking to make a decision soon. Hopefully we can land him in New York. We could use him.
FAT JOE: New York is crazy excited. We got [Anthony] Randolph [from the Golden State Warriors]—he’s skinny, but he’s real tough. He’s gonna be somebody in this league. If that nigga just lift some weights and eat some shit, he’s gonna be aight.
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: He’s gonna be aight. I’ma put him under my wing for a minute, man. Make sure he understand [what it takes] to be an all-star in this league, and he’ll get it together.
FAT JOE: You feeling ready this year?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: I feel great, man. I feel like this is going to be an all-time year for me.
FAT JOE: I got that newspaper clipping when you took that picture [signing with the Knicks in early July]. You had your hands open at the front of Madison Square Garden. I was just so excited, and I still am. In New York, we’ve been thirsty for so long—we need this. Who else was really on you to go [to their team]?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: Well, Miami kept calling me. Houston kept calling me. Phoenix kept calling me. Chicago was calling. New Jersey asked for a meeting. But I figured New York is… From a platform standpoint, playing in Madison Square Garden, as a player, you can’t look to do anything bigger than that. That’s, like, an ultimate goal from a basketball-player perspective.
FAT JOE: And you’re the king of New York, man! New York Knicks are such a blessed franchise—because, if we don’t win one game, it’s still sold out every night. Hopefully, next year, we get some more pieces involved. They’ve been rumoring CP3 [Chris Paul]. You know I’ve been harassing him too.
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: Yeah, he’s locked in [to his contract with the New Orleans Hornets] for a few more years. But if we can make the playoffs in this upcoming season here, then that’ll intrigue more players to come to New York. Everybody wants to come to New York—they just need a reason to. So if we make the playoffs, and we make some noise in the playoffs and be successful, everybody gonna wanna come to New York.
FAT JOE: Nah, we making the playoffs, B. There’s no way around it.
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: Absolutely.
FAT JOE: Even if you gotta score 40, 50 every game, we making that playoffs!
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: No doubt.
FAT JOE: Big men win championships. You’re obviously a big man, no homo. How [have the people of NYC] been treating you as you walk around New York?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: The fans [have] been incredible, Joe. Everywhere I go, the fans are so psyched about the Knicks; they can’t wait for the season to start. They talking “Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs.” They saying this is the first time the city really been excited about the Knicks in a long time.
FAT JOE: What does the normal, common folk ask you when you walking down the street?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: Man, pretty much what they sayin’ on the corners and the streets of New York is these words verbatim: “Stoudemire, get buckets, man! Get buckets, son! Take us to the playoffs!”
FAT JOE: [Laughs] What you got on your tape deck right now that’s hip-hop?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: I’m riding with that Eminem right now. I got that Drake in the mix. And then you got the mixtapes out, so I got a lot of mixtapes. You know I gotta be rocking the mixtapes.
FAT JOE: Aight! Amar’e loves hip-hop, and he in that home of hip-hop, that mecca. So you about to start hearing some real-deal hip-hop. You about to get enlightened, [and you’re] really gonna find out about Dipset, The Lox, Joe Crack.
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: You know I know about all that, man, ’cause I was raised in New York. I was raised in Newburgh, New York, so I was out there when Biggie first hit. So you know I know about Big Pun, Joey Crack. I grew up in that era, so it’s kinda home sweet home for me.
FAT JOE: I know you went to Carmelo Anthony’s wedding. Was you asking him to come play for the Knicks at that wedding? Did you try?
AMAR’E STOUDEMIRE: You already know I did! [Laughs] We trying to build a conglomerate with the Knicks. We trying to build something special out here in New York.
FAT JOE: I’m sure you are, my brother. I got no doubts.
Knicks Can Learn From Division Rivals

If you're a die hard Knicks fan, like I am, you really can't hate this Celtics team. You must admire their attention to detail and defensive intensity. With four likely hall of famers and one of the top players in the league running point, the Celtics are one of the most complete teams in the NBA.
Amar'e Sees Knicks Heading Toward Title

As the positive vibe continues to swirl around the Knicks this week, Amar'e took some time out to compare his new situation to the one he left, in Phoenix.
STAT tells the NY Daily News that he saw the writing on the wall for the Suns, and decided to bolt. He neglected to mention the $100 mil the Knicks threw at him, though: “But with the Knicks having enough salary cap flexibility to make a splash next summer in the free agent market and Carmelo Anthony sounding more and more like he wants out of Denver, Stoudemire is confident the decision to leave Phoenix was a wise one. ‘From my standpoint it’s longevity and being able to build a team for a championship-caliber team,’ Stoudemire said. ‘That was my goal in Phoenix.’ Stoudemire added that with Steve Nash and Grant Hill in the twilight of their careers and the Suns’ window closing, he needed to make a move sooner than later. ‘I wanted to make sure that we’re looking forward to the future and being able to bring in other star players to help win a championship,’ Stoudemire said. ‘I felt that wasn’t going to happen in that situation. I wanted to go to a team willing to build a championship quality team.’”

Carmello Says Decision Coming
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5738075&campaign=rss&source=NEWYORKHeadlinesCarmelo Anthony acknowledged after Denver's season-opening victory Wednesday that he still doesn't intend to sign a contract extension and that it might be time for him and the Nuggets to go their separate ways.
“Speaking to Yahoo! Sports after scoring 23 points in Denver's 110-88 win over Utah, Anthony said he's looking at his future -- and the Nuggets don't appear to be part of it.Management wants "to sit down and talk, but my thing is it's way beyond this year," he told Yahoo! Sports. "It ain't got nothing to do with the new GM [Masai Ujiri], Josh [Kroenke, team president], the players. For me, I feel it's a time for change.
"If I do nothing now, I'm never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay."
The Nuggets' $65 million offer of an extension has been on the table for months. If Anthony plays out the season in Denver, he would headline the 2011 free-agent class. In the meantime, the Nuggets have until the February trade deadline to deal him.
The New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets are the major players in a trade for Anthony, ESPN.com's Chris Broussard reports. A source told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that the Chicago Bulls remain in the mix to acquire him.
Appearing on ESPN Radio on Tuesday, Anthony reminded everyone that he's always wanted to keep his options open.
"But as far as the money that's on the table, I understand the money that's on the table. I understand it's a lot," he said on "The Scott Van Pelt Show". "But it's more than the money. Right now I'm here, I'm with the Nuggets."
Chandler Shuts Down Bargnani, Knicks Win Opener

The Knicks did not win by accident for a change, they earned it. With a key defensive adjustment in the second half and proper usage of th4eir go-to guy down the stretch, the Knicks were able to pull of a rare road win in Toronto last night.
Wilson Chandler's key defensive switch to guarding the 7-foot Andrea Bargnani was huge for the Knicks as Wilson held him to just four points in the second half. Chandler's stat line also including a nice 22 point 8 rebound mark, but that was secondary compared to his defense.
The Knicks blew a 16 point second quarter lead to go into the half leading by four. The Knicks never fully coughed up the lead until mid-fourth quarter, but quickly reclaimed it on a put back by Wilson himself and never looked back.
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/columns/story?columnist=sheridan_chris&id=5735706TORONTO -- Coach Mike D'Antoni called Amare Stoudemire's performance a near "cripple-double," which it's fair to say qualifies as humorous.
And this is important, you ask, because ... ?
Well, it goes back to what transpired after the morning shootaround on the day of the Knicks' season opener against the Raptors, when a Canadian TV reporter threw D'Antoni for a loop by asking why he had a reputation as being humorless.
D'Antoni might be a lot of things, but humorless is not one of them.
And so it was with great pride that he accepted congratulations on the use of the term cripple-double to describe Stoudemire's 19-point, 10-rebound, nine-turnover performance Wednesday night as New York opened the 2010-11 season with a 98-93 victory over the Raptors.
"I'm trying to get back my reputation on that," D'Antoni said. "I don't know what happened with that. I'm normally funny when we win."
The victory gave the Knicks a winning record for the first time in 23 months. The last time they were above .500 was Nov. 22, 2008, when they were 7-6 in D'Antoni's first season as coach.
The funny thing was, this Knicks victory did not come the way one would have expected, from the team's revamped roster.
Because as good as Stoudemire was down the stretch, scoring on four straight possessions to give the Knicks an eight-point lead with 2:40 remaining, he was hardly the key to this victory.
"From a high school grade scale, I don't know, a B?" Stoudemire said when asked to grade his performance. "It wasn't a great ballgame for me. Down the stretch I was able to score the ball when we most needed it, and we got the win."
Wilson Chandler was one of the other key contributors, scoring 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting and playing strong defense on Toronto center Andrea Bargnani in the second half as part of his debut as the team's new sixth man following his demotion from the starting lineup in favor of rookie Landry Fields.
"Like I said, no matter where he puts me at, I'm going to try do something to help the team," Chandler said. "I didn't take it personally. I took it as he had a better lineup, and he's a good coach, so I just go along with what he says.
"I was not trying to be overly aggressive, just trying to give us a boost off the bench. It could change; it could stay the same. Whatever he tells me, I'm here."
Thanks in large part to Chandler, the Knicks got 41 points from their reserves on a night when Danilo Gallinari's preseason struggles carried into the regular season, when Timofey Mozgov (no points and four fouls in 7½ minutes) got his official introduction to How NBA Officials Call Games Involving Rookie European Centers, and when two members of the 10-man rotation, Bill Walker and Roger Mason, combined to take nine shots between them and miss every single one.
Fields made his first two shots, both 3-pointers, and had all four of his rebounds in the fourth quarter. Ronny Turiaf played especially well in a 13-2 run bridging the first and second quarters that helped the Knicks open a 16-point lead, Toney Douglas was effective when he was driving the ball and shooting from close range (5-for-6) instead of long range (0-for-3 on 3s), and starting point guard Raymond Felton (16 points, six assists, six rebounds) basically played Toronto's Jarrett Jack to a draw.
"There'll be nights when we have other guys step in. That's the beauty of having 10 guys that can come into a game at any time. We'll ride them when they play well, and we'll use other guys when they don't," D'Antoni said.
It complicated things for the Knicks' new "Max Man" when Toronto used a sort of hybrid box-and-one zone to defend Stoudemire, often sending a second and third defender at him when he caught the ball on the low block.
Often, the result was a ball bouncing out of bounds off his feet or getting swiped from his hands. But in crunch time, Stoudemire came through.
"That's him. We'll go to him, and he'll get stronger as we go on, but he'll know that they'll send the whole team after him, too," D'Antoni said. "So it's going to be a fine line between being very aggressive and being the facilitator, and hopefully we can get to that point, because that's what we're going to need. We can't expect Amare to do it every time, all the time. We have to have other guys around him get comfortable and play the way they did tonight.
"Obviously we've got to get a lot better, and this was the first game for everybody. We'll do that. But in the meantime, just keep the energy and the defense, and if we get the wins when we're learning to play with each other, it's going to be a pretty good season."

Anthony Randolph Injury Update**
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-yorkTORONTO -- Anthony Randolph was walking with the aid of crutches Wednesday morning as the New York Knicks held their shootaround prior to their season opener against the Raptors, and said the ankle he sprained Tuesday should only keep him sidelined for a week at most.
Also, coach Mike D'Antoni pronounced rookie Timofey Mozgov "100 percent" a day after the 7-foot-1 center bruised his hip at practice.
Randolph's injury, sustained when he landed on a teammate's foot at practice, had the potential to exacerbate one of the Knicks' biggest weaknesses from the preseason -- their propensity to get outrebounded. Their opponents grabbed an average of 12.1 more rebounds per game in eight preseason games.
The 21-year-old Randolph had been penciled in as the backup power forward, a role that will now temporarily fall to Wilson Chandler in his new role as a reserve.
Chandler was the Knicks' starting two-guard last season, but that job has now been handed to rookie Landry Fields, the second-round pick from Stanford who led the Pac-10 in scoring and rebounding last season.
"I'm feeling much better today than I did yesterday," said Randolph, who missed the final 47 games of last season with torn ligaments in his left ankle -- the same one he re-injured Tuesday. "It wasn't as bad as it could have been. The other injury is healed up fine. It's healthy."
D'Antoni's elevation of Landry into the starting five was the most surprising news to come out of the final portion of training camp. He averaged 8.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in the preseason, shooting 59 percent, and was given the starting nod after D'Antoni toyed with the idea of using Toney Douglas alongside Raymond Felton in an alignment of two pure point guards.
"If Wilson was starting and got into foul trouble, we would be a little bit behind [depth-wise]. But Wilson will be able to spell the 4 and the 3, so there are different reasons why you want to start Landry, and that would be one of them," D'Antoni said.
With Randolph inactive, Shawne Williams was expected to be on the active list for Wednesday's opener.
Knicks Open Season in Toronto

The Knicks Open their season tonight in Toronto and begin a very tough 5 game stretch to start the 2010-2011 season. After playing the Raptors, who beat the Knicks in all four meetings last season, New york will play four games against playoff teams; at Boston, home for Portland and Orlando and then at Chicago. Tonight confront the Knicks with an interesting first test.
In order for the Knicks to make any improvements to their record from last year, they will need to start with improving their play within the Division. After the Boston Celtics, the remaining seeds are up for grabs and the Knicks need to do everything they can to claim stake their claim.
Last season the Knicks had a pathetic 6-10 mark in division play while the Raptors who were under .500 as a team overall, posted an 11-5 mark within the weak division. If they can improve upon this then the playoffs are a realistic goal for the Knicks.
If the off season wasn't interesting enough, coach Mike D'Antoni made things more interesting by declaring Landry Fields as the team's starting shooting guard. Wilson Chandler will likely cvome off the bench as the team's sixth man. Timofey Mozgov will start at Center despite injuring his hip in Tuesday's practice.

Iverson Takes $4M to Ball in Turkey

The Besiktas have agreed in principle to sign NBA Guard Allen Iverson to a two year contract worth about Four Million dollars.
After reportedly getting zero interest from teams in the NBA, Iverson has found work elsewhere, somewhat following the steps of another NBA outcast, Stephon Marbury. Iverson has been an all star 11 times and is currently 17th on the NBA's all time scoring list.
Due to many distractions caused by himself, he alienated much of his reputation as a valuable asset to any team. Labeled as selfish and disruptive, many teams viewed Iverson as too much of a risk to take, even for a short period of time.

Knicks Extend 3 Players

Via ESPN.COM....
Full ArticleThe New York Knicks have exercised fourth-year options on forwards Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph, as well as its third-year option on guard Toney Douglas, president of basketball operations Donnie Walsh announced Sunday.
Walsh also announced that the team has waived forward Patrick Ewing Jr..
Ewing Jr., 6-foot-8, averaged 1.8 points and 6.0 minutes over four preseason games. The Knicks instead kept swingman Shawne Williams, who's trying to rebuild his career after off-court trouble in three previous NBA stops. The move leaves the Knicks with 15 players on their roster.
The Knicks originally selected the 6-foot-10 Gallinari with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft. He has averaged 12.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 109 games throughout his first two NBA seasons. Last season, Gallinari was selected to play in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and competed in the Foot Locker 3-Point Contest at 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas.
Randolph, 6-foot-11, spent his first two NBA seasons with the Golden State Warriors, where he averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in 96 games. The Warriors selected him with the 14th overall selection in the 2008 NBA draft following his freshman season at Louisiana State University. The Knicks acquired Randolph, along with Kelenna Azubuike and Ronny Turiaf, from Golden State in exchange for David Lee in July.
Douglas, 6-foot-2, averaged 8.6 points, 2.0 assists and 19.4 minutes in 56 games during his rookie season with New York in 2009-10. He was originally selected 29th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 NBA draft. Douglas then had his draft rights traded to New York in exchange for cash considerations on draft night, Jun. 25, 2009.
